Training

Foster Hope believes that compassionate care from foster families is the single greatest contributor to foster children’s success in foster care. Transformative camp experiences for children are vital, but they’re not enough. That’s why we offer essential training and support to foster families and child welfare professionals.

Training for Foster Families

A lack of adequate preparation and training for foster parents is one of the most critical challenges in the foster care system. Poorly equipped foster families feel unable to meet the needs of children struggling with trauma-based behavior concerns, which leads to children moving from one home to another, exacerbating their trauma and instability.

It’s a painful cycle in which children act out because they feel unsupported, leading to them being placed in a new foster home, which makes them feel more unsupported, which leads to more acting out.

Foster Hope is committed to addressing this issue by partnering with accredited organizations to provide trauma-informed training to foster and adoptive parents at no cost. Understanding the effects of trauma on child development and behavior makes it possible for foster families to handle their foster children’s behavioral concerns and build strategies to provide supportive, healing care.

Learning Opportunities for Foster Families and Social Workers

By partnering with accredited educational providers, Foster Hope offers specialized training opportunities for child welfare professionals and social workers to earn continuing education credits. These courses keep professionals abreast of the latest in trauma-informed care, fostering practices, and legislative updates affecting foster care.

Our “Lunch and Learn” series is a fun, convenient way to stay up to date with industry-required credits. We also offer comprehensive online classes so professionals can maintain their credentials on their own schedule.

The Future of Foster Child Support Training

Currently, our summer camps are only for foster children. However, it’s our dream to expand this life-changing experience to the caregivers. While children build bonds, learn life skills, and have a blast just being kids, caregivers would have the opportunity to connect with one another and gain invaluable insights into foster child care.

Our goal is to acquire land to expand and deepen our training and educational offerings as well as serve as a permanent site for camps. It will serve as a resource hub for the foster care community, providing ongoing support, education, and a chance to connect with others who have similar experiences.
