Over 12,000 children are in foster care in North Carolina – 12,000 children going through one of the most difficult times of their young lives. At Foster Hope, we believe in the power of a safe place for children to play, learn, and heal. Foster Hope exists to give these children a place to recover from their trauma, learn new ways to cope and communicate, and just be kids.
The Power of Camp for Foster Children
Foster children face a higher risk of poor academic performance, chronic health conditions, and emotional trauma. Foster Hope’s camps offer a crucial intervention, a sanctuary where children can have fun, forge meaningful connections with one another and with counselors, and learn invaluable skills to help them handle the challenging and unpredictable aspects of their lives.
Empowerment
When foster children are given the opportunity to step outside their everyday lives, they can see the potential for new and exciting experiences for themselves in the future.
Connection
Foster children have a unique life experience that may be difficult or embarrassing to talk about to other children. However, Foster Hope offers an opportunity for these children to share experiences and talk about their lives openly with children who are having similar experiences.
Mentoring
Caring adults with extensive training in childhood trauma offer guidance and support that can be transformative in the life of a child; building trust and a stable figure in their lives, if even for a short time.
Skills
Practical skills training teaches kids how to better handle their emotions, connect with others, and manage the challenges life throws at them with confidence.
